Order:  That the City submit to the Massachusetts Legislature for passage the following Home Rule Petition AN ACT REGARDING THE MAXIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT FOR POLICE OFFICERS FOR THE CITY OF MALDEN

Body

Be it hereby resolved by the Mayor and the City Council of the City of Malden that the General Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts enact legislation to eliminate age as a factor of eligibility for a person to have his/her name certified for original appointment to the position of police officer in the City of Malden notwithstanding the maximum age requirement set forth in G.L. c 31 § 58A provided, that the Legislature may reasonably vary the form and substance of the requested legislation within the scope of the general public objectives of this petition.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding section 58A of chapter 31 of the General Laws or any other general or special law to the contrary, any person shall be eligible to have his/her name certified for original appointment to the position of police officer in the City of Malden without regard to the age of the person.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
