Resolution expressing support for the strike of the Encore Casino and Resort Workers of Teamsters Local 25 and Unite Here Local 26

WHEREAS: Encore Casino and Resort Workers are ambassadors for the Malden and Greater Boston area’s travelers and tourists;
WHEREAS: The over 1400 members of Teamsters Local 25 and Unite Here Local 26 and who do the work at the casino and warehouse reflect the strength and diversity of the City of Malden;
WHEREAS: Teamsters Local 25 and Unite Here Local 26 workers believe one job should be enough to live in the city they work in, raise a family and retire with dignity; and
WHEREAS: After months of negotiations Teamsters Local 25 and Unite Here Local 26 have gone on strike indefinitely at the Encore Boston Harbor.
NOW BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED: That the Malden City Council go on record expressing support for the Strike of Teamsters Local 25 and Unite Here Local 26 workers and honor the strike by not eating, meeting, or sleeping at hotels while a labor dispute is in effect, and to join all picket lines and encourage all city residents and employees to do the same; and
BE IT FURTHER ORDERED: That the City Clerk be and hereby is requested to forward a suitably engrossed copy of this resolution to the General Manager of Encore Boston Harbor.
