Be it ordained that the Revised Ordinances of 1991 be amended to establish positions in the Assessor's Office.

Body
Be it ordained by the Malden City Council that the Revised Ordinances of 1991, as amended, be further amended as follows:

-by striking out the word "Assessor" as appearing in the M2 Classification of Section 8.35 and inserting in place thereof the following: "Assessor/Director of Assessing"

-by striking adding after the word "Assessor" as appearing in the M1A Classification of Section 8.35 the following: "(Full Time)"

-by adding to the M1A Classification in Section 8.35 the following: "Assistant Assessor"

-by adding to Section 8.38 the following:
Assessor (Part-Time) $5,000.00

-by striking out Section 4.7 as it currently exists and inserting in place thereof a new Section 4.7 as follows:
SECTION 4.7 INTERNAL ORGANIZATION; DUTIES; RECORDS
The Board of Assessors shall annually as soon after March first as practicable, meet and organize by selecting one of their members as Chairman, and appointing a Clerk, who shall not be a member of the Board.
The Board shall hire additional employees and assistants as required, subject to funding by the Mayor and City Council, and shall compute and cast all taxes.
The Clerk shall keep a record of all transactions of the Board, and under the direction of the Board, have charge of the books of the Assessing Department. The Clerk shall keep a complete record of transfers of real estate and all information necessary for the legal and correct assessment of taxes, and shall perform such other duties as the Board of Assessors may from time to time determine.

For purposes of implementation of this ordinance, the present Chairman of the Board of Assessors shall become Director of Assessing on the effective date of this act but shall continue in the capacity of Chairman until March 1, 2016; provided that he shall receive compensation as Director of Assessing retroactively to July 1...
